The Children's Home Pécs was founded in 1961. It has been working in its present form since 1998 in the centre of Pécs. It provides full time comprehensive services to the children and those young adults who are unanble to start their life in the society.
Children come from disadvantaged families struggling with social and financial problems. They suffer from family dramas, conflicts, abuse from their early ages. Sometimes police brings here children found without any kind of parental care. Even children ask for help and want to get in from the street escaping from their family problems. If it is possible we try to solve these problems and make efforts to keep the family together. Emotional neglec, need of love or inferiority complex is part of their life. They are surrounded by uncultured environment and aggressive atmosphere. In the achievement-centred educational system they have less chance to have success in their studies – their teachableness is less than children coming from normal families because of the experienced traumas.
Our mission is to make able children living in families and an autonomic life. We provide them finishing school and getting profession, supply their needs in cultural and school knowledge. We help children with antisocial behavioural patterns integrating to society by giving acceptable standards and values. We ensure mental, psychological care to elaborate their traumas. Our aim is that human, spiritual and moral values become internal. They can take part in many kind of sport and cultural activities such as arts (espacially drawing), library, pottery, dramatics, religious studies. Related with traditional Hungarian rites we have feasts during all the year.
Since 1998 there are three economically and professionally detached living units where we try to model the life of a family. Each unit takes care of their needs, their own food, clothes and do their housework together with the children.
A special post-caring support is available for those who are between 18 and 24. We help them making their conditions appropriate to start their own life: finishing school, getting job. In the Temporary Home there live children whose parents are unable to take care of their children because of unemploymency, staying in hospital, homelessness. They are still under their parents’ wardship and pay for care according to their social circumstances and income.

child welfare. Our institution makes place to
Csontváry Arts Studio,
which is the art community of those who live here.
The Foundation of Children’s Home Pécs accepts and books the presents of generous supporters even money or material form. It passes along the gifts where needed, and pays childrens’ holidays and free time activity, supports the library with books and videos, buys psychoterapic diagnostic and ability-improving equipment.
